1 IN 2 MEN ARE SENSITIVE
Date: May 9, 2009
Place: Sassafrazz in Yorkville
Who: La Roche Posay
La Roche Posay hosting a cocktail reception in Yorkville ... definitely peeked my interest. Holding a Sazzaie Sangria in my hand I reached into my little gift bag on my chosen seat and what do I pull out? A 50ml Anthelios 60, a SPF60 Sunstick (love it) ... and Oh My GOSH ... XY HOMME! As I sit there in glee the thoughts of it's "ABOUT TIME" runs through my head. I had to endure an hour presentation by dermatologists Dr. Jen Sen Yeung, the Medical Director at Women's College and Sunny Brook Hospital, discussing how the sun ages the skin more than before. Biggest take away, use at least an SPF 25 because the amount that we apply onto our skin, thins the sunscreen protection so a SPF 15 is not sufficient any more.
La Roche Posay Credibility
Being in the Cosmetic industry for over 9 years, La Roche Posay has always been my go to products for my female clients who are sensitive and does not want to burn a hole in their wallet. The main ingredient in the product is the spring water rich in selenium located in a small town called La Roche Posay, France. The spring water has numerous therapeutic and dermatological benefits for the skin. The La Roche Posay Hydrothermal Spa was established in 1913 and is approved by the Academie de Medicine. The Spa consults nearly 7,500 people a year (30% children) dealing with inflammatory dermatological problems. In Canada we are able to use the same products that are used at the Hydro thermal spa in order to treat our sensitive skin.
Skin: Man vs. Women
Skin is Skin right? Wrong! A man's skin differs from women skin for the following reasons:
Men's skin has Denser Vascularization.
More density of blood vessels = more product absorptions.
20% thicker skin
16% more Collagen (therefore ages less)
A Developed Pilous System
The average beard has 15,000 hair
It grows 137cm per year
More testosterones = more oil production therefore more oily/combination skin
More acidic skin
Men have 4 - 4.5pH (Women have 5.5pH)
1 in 2 men are sensitive
How does sensitive skin look like?
Redness
Bumpy (from shaving)
Dryness, flakiness
Stinging, itchy sensations
Male grooming is a new phenomenon in Canada and few men know their skin type. One can still be oily with sensitive skin. Majority of male sensitivity are caused by improper shaving, weather and in correct use of skin products.
La Roche Posay is launching a men's line called XY Homme in late summer 2009 at Drugstores to help men decrease their sensitive skin level. Be on the look out for the new 5 XY Homme products.
iBFrank would love to carry the products, but La Roche Posay can only be carried in drugstores because they are a dermatological company.
